Ask
How can we build a thrilling and emotional flying experience —“anchor attraction”, while also helping to preserve Agila, the Great Philippine Eagle.
Enchanted Kingdom wished to be the first to market in South East Asia with the ever more popular attraction – the Flying Theatre. This new ride would serve as the cornerstone of a planned 20th anniversary mega-expansion to the park. Additionally, EK wished to feature the most iconic places and landscapes found across the Philippines 7000 plus islands — and they felt it only natural to have Agila, the Philippine’s national bird and the largest eagle in the world, be the audiences guide.
Our Take
What Enchanted Kingdom requested became the highest capacity Flying Theatre in the world at 105-seats. We designed it from scratch to provide the desired high capacity, excellent throughput and an incredible motion ride experience. The curved screen would be incredibly large necessitating multiple 4K proctors and a camera system with extremely high resolution and a high frame rate for butter smooth imagery. The motion system was a brand-new design using a family friendly five-seat capacity bench. Through the careful and precise choreography of these components we would produce a world-class attraction.
Execution
After producing and reworking scale models of the attraction we built fully functioning prototype motion systems and performed 1:1 scale projection tests on giant screens. These informed our decisions moving forward and allowed us to tune the guest experience for maximum thrills while meeting the budget of Enchanted Kingdom. While EK was adamant they wanted Filipinos to produce the creative content – which we enthusiastically endorsed – SI Creative provided on-set consultation during the filming of the ride. This ensured the aerial cameraman and helicopter pilot could maximize the use of the flying theatre’s motion system capabilities.
Delivery
Since the attraction would be housed in a brand new, custom designed building, our flying theatre design and installation teams collaborated very closely with EK’s architecture and construction groups. Immediately upon its Grand Opening in December of 2016 Agila The EKsperience became the park’s most popular attraction and has wowed hundred of thousands of park visitors to date.
